Corrosion has long been a concern when building and maintaining ships as they work in a highly damaging environment. Dry air has been prominent in shipping applications for corrosion prevention in operation, preservation, and surface preparation and coating. In this paper, we look at how Korean shipyards use Desiccant dryers to improve automation of their construction, and the dehumidification design as the extreme climate in Korea is beneficial for the range of climate conditions in Australia. Using modelling techniques with various climate data we can look at selections and energy saving implications from this Korean Shipyard design and apply it to key Australian cities. We also look at the relationship between humidity and corrosion, the application of humidity control, and sizing methods for the use of humidity control in various defence and civilian applications.
