摘要

Introduction This paper describes a successful partnership of academic librarians working with persons from within the university and from outside to build a collaborative team to promote diversity and literacy. The team, consisting of representatives from five institutional partners—Missouri State University, Drury University, the Springfield-Greene County Library District, the Springfield Public Schools, and the local chapter of the NAACP—launched an inaugural city-wide African American Read-In celebration in February 2010 in Springfield, Missouri, and sponsored related preevents during autumn 2009. The former can be described a "town and gown" united effort to promote diversity and literacy within the community at large.
