Investigation of Isobutanol Fuel Blends with Briggs Stratton Engines

Performance of 3 different B&S engine models (Quantum - Small Single Cylinder, Model 31 - Large Single Cylinder, and Model 44 - V-Twin) were evaluated with both Ethanol and Isobutanol blend fuels. Engines were evaluated for durability, performance, carburetor calibration shift, starting, emissions, and material compatibility using standard engineering procedures. Material compatibility was evaluated by soaking an assortment of fuel systems components in both fuels.
