Development of 'Non Gunpowder' Disconnectors - (PPT)

This paper discusses and presents the development of non gunpowder disconnectors. The electrical performance of gunpowder disconnectors was also evaluated. The limitations of these devices, concerning the field records are discussed. The expected records of these types of surge arrester and disconnectors are presented. The number of sound surge arresters removed from operation by the misoperation of the disconnector is computed. The performance of heavy and light duty surge arrester compared. Based on these, it is proposed a new disconnector design. This design has two coupled parts, a fuse link and a driving spring. The main electrical test on the fuse links and on the complete set are presented. The results are discussed and commented. Finally, some recommendations are also analysed.
