Line Arrester Installations on the ATC System: What Was Done Right Further Improvements

The transmission line surge arrester (TLSA) has been implemented worldwide by transmission companies to improve the lightning performance of their lines. This paper will detail the findings of a recent field review that Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) performed of the TLSA installations on the American Transmission Company (ATC) system and the resulting lessons learned. The field review included a visual inspection of the installations along with recommendations for improvements if concerns were found for a particular installation.
