Passive components are used in all electronic devices. The integration of more and more functions and the miniaturization of active circuits has also led to a constant increase in the number of passive components per electronic device as well as a strong drive to reduce their size. Some companies have used or reused Silicon based processes and capacities to develop new technologies to create what is now referred to as Integrated Passive Devices (IPD). This paper and the presentation will describe some realizations as well as the potential of these technologies to improve miniaturization, performance, reliability and cost of electronic devices, in particular all miniature devices and applications powered with a limited energy source.
