Making Offshore Wind Fuelled Electricity Competitive DC Generation, Power Collection and Connection - Project Update

Total transmission distances within the power collection network of many offshore wind farms of the next ten years, are greater than the transmission distances from the wind farm to shore. To counter the power system issues this creates, Converteam is implementing a five year plan; to offer a proven set of DC technologies to the offshore wind power station. The project now involves wind farm developers, utilities and government. As hoped, the technology is proving to offer a major contribution to the reduction in cost of electricity from offshore wind.
