Multiple developers have proposed gigawatt-scale offshore wind projects for North American waters. This size range corresponds to hundreds of wind turbines per project, requiring very large installation operations which must be planned diligently. Successful execution of gigawatt-scale projects is dependent on thoughtful and detailed planning and understanding of the myriad risks and opportunities that are associated with installation and operations activities.Value Chain Analysis (VCA) can be used to answer: ? Which technologies/methods should be chosen? ? Where are the biggest economic challenges? ? The biggest uncertainties? ? Should one take control of the entire value chain or buy service from others? ? What are the effects of regulations, financial schemes, power purchase agreements? ? How robust is the project?
