The increasing availability of complex and advanced driver assistance systems with the corresponding information increase and the distraction of truck and bus drivers due to demanding driving situations leads to the need of a flexible and adaptable instrumentation concept to prioritize the information shown to the driver dependent on the driving situation. The presented approach for commercial vehicles is comparable to Continentals "Simplify your Drive" (SyD) - concept for passenger cars, where the instrument display content is adapted to different driving modes. The commercial vehicle platform consists out of a fully digital cluster platform with a 12"-colour-TFT, a high performance 2D-graphics processor, a Linux operating system and a flexible HMI-tool-chain. For different driving situations the display content is modified to optimally serve the driver needs. We show examples on possible HMI-solutions, e.g. country driving profile and city profile mode for trucks and bus stop mode for city busses. A benefit of the platform approach in hardware and software is the relatively small development effort for customizing the standard platform for small and medium volumes, e.g. for bus customers.
