Influence of Cement Fineness on the Self-Healing Ability of Cement Mortar

The development of crack in concrete is one of the most important reasons for structural damages. Further damages of concrete can be avoided if the concrete can be self-healed in the initial stage of the damage, which will enhance the structural safety and durability of concrete. There are many factors influencing the self-healing ability oi concrete cracks. In this study, the influence of cement fineness on the self-healing ability of mortar was investigated. Comparing the intensity values and the crack width changes before and after healing, the influence of different cement fineness and content on the self-healing ability of mortar was studied by ultrasonic testing, SEM and other testing methods. The results show that in a certain range, selfhealing ability of cement mortar increases with increasing the content of the coarse particles. When the specific surface area of cement is 245m2/kg and content is 10%, the self-healing ability of cement mortar is the best.
