This paper presents the extensive study carried out to develop Uniform Hazard Response Spectra (UHRS) for Surat region in the state of Gujarat, India considering local variation in average shear wave velocity (Vs_(30)). A 2-D shear wave velocity (SWV) models has been developed by conducting MASW (Multichannel Analysis of Surface Wave) tests about 63 locations in an area. Average shear wave velocities up to 30m depth (Vs_(30)) have been modeled for the entire region and using this detailed site characterization has been carried out. From the Vs30 model, it has been found that the entire region of the city falls in shear wave velocity range of 0.18 ≤ Vs30 ≤0.36 (site class D) and 0.36 ≤ Vs30 ≤ 0.72 (site class C) as per the NEHRP. Considering this in view, uniform hazard response spectrum with 5% damping for Surat has been generated for 10% and 2% probability of exceedance in 50 years for bed rock condition and also for considering the local site effect.
