EXPLORATORY MODELING FOR COMPLEX PROCESSES

Purpose-This paper provides an exploratory modeling of practice in complex systems. It starts with the introduction to complexity theory concepts and its implication for one complex industry which deals with complexity in their processes as wicked problems. The research tries to define principles of this theory be used as guidelines for designing systems with chaotic behavior, adaptability and self organizing activities. The goal of the research is to extend requirements to identify those parts of a system that are complex and suggest possible solutions such as defining a new lens to investigate the system. Design/Methodology/Approach- The initial research is conducted to analyze apparel industry through intensive documentary observation which deals with complex processes as wicked problems. The study has used complexity theory to understand and explain the processes and the factors within those processes which shape the design, implementation and outcome of the final product. Findings- Through the case study, it is demonstrated that it is possible to explain aspects of the problem space by complexity theory through an exploratory modeling. It offers criteria and way to show how to map real processes to complexity concepts.
