Thermal Decomposition Process in Modified Aromatic Amine-based Polybenzoxazines Investigated by TGA and Cone Calorimeter

The objective of this paper focuses on the thermal decomposition process in modified aromatic amine-based polybenzoxazines. The thermal decomposition of a serial of special modified aromatic amine-based polybenzoxazines is conducted by the thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), the derivative thermogravimetry (DTG) and the cone calorimeter. The results show that there are one or two main stages during the thermal decomposition process in modified aromatic amine-based polybenzoxazines. The main reaction heat comes from the low temperature stage lower than 450°C. The heat from the high temperature higher than 450°C is not as much as the low temperature stage. Cone calorimeter is an instrument to give the data for HRR, EHC, MLS, SEA and so on. It also provides evidence to collect the thermal decomposition products such as CO_2, CO, smoke and oxygen consumed in this process. The thermal decomposition process of modified system strongly depends on the molecule structure of main composition in modified aromatic amine-based polybenzoxazines. The thermal stability of modified aromatic amine-based polybenzoxazines is excellent due to the molecule structure of aromatic amine in modified polybenzoxazines.
