Comparison of Permanent. Magnet Drive Motor with a Cage Induction Motor Design for a Hybrid Electric Vehicle

In this paper the design for the 2004 Priuselectric drive machine is investigated in detail to assess itscharacteristics. It takes the form a fluid-cooled interiorpermanent magnet machine. This information is used togenerate a complete operating profile. This information isthen utilized to produce a design for an alternativeinduction motor. The specification is found to be demandinghowever a design is produced for the application which isfound to be operationally close to. that of the. current-permanent magnet design and should, in theory; be cheaperto manufacture due to the absence of permanent magnets.
