Forces modeling and simulation (FMS) applications are critical tools in an analyst's arsenal for providing critical information to Department of Defense decision makers. The need for a higher level of fidelity for these tools combined with a desire for the shortest possible time to solution has led to the application of high performance computers (HPCs) to support these goals. The focus of this paper is to discuss the challenges and lessons learned in adapting FMS applications for use on HPCs. The first section will cover the abstract concepts behind such adaptation and the support available to effect such adaptation. The second part will discuss the specifics of adapting the Joint Analysis System (JAS) to run optimally on a Linux? (Linus Torvalds) cluster HPC.
