Biodegradable plastic materials have grown to be an alternative to traditional plastics, mainly in those applications with a short-medium shelf-life whose elimination represents environmental and economical problems. Many biodegradable materials have been developed during the last years, but one of its main limitations consists on its poor resistance of continuous medium-high strengths. In order to increase its mechanical resistance, these materials can be modified by the addition of reinforcing fibres from natural origin. So, the mechanical properties are improved without loosing the total biodegradability of the final product.
