In the present study we report the preparation of TiC - ZrC powder blend in one-step process of synthesis. Powders have been produced by means of Self Propagating High Temperature syntheses (SHS) single mode using two approaches: (i) addition of ZrC powder into Ti+C green mixture, and (ii) addition TiC powder into Zr+C mixture. Special attention was paid to influence of syntheses pathway on powder particles microstructure and phase composition and distribution. To control particle size mechanical treatment was applied to the structures together with SHS.
