Duplex Stainless Steel adds Structural and Cost Efficiency to Seismic Design of Storage Tanks

Predominantly in areas around the world where tectonic plate boundaries are located, like Haiti, Chile, Indonesia, Japan and North America - among a few countries - the infrastructure must be designed to withstand the risk of severe seismic activities - to provide structural integrity - and protect living being in their surroundings from destruction. Duplex Stainless Steel (DSS) is today an established alloy type for large storage tanks and pressure vessels, due to its great combination of both high strength and corrosion resistance. DSS provides both weight savings and durability, and is therefore often a cost efficient solution for large tanks - especially within the process industry, in e.g., chemical, pulp and paper, food industry.
