Design of Experiments and Analysis Examples from USAF Test Pilot School

摘要

The US Air Force Test Pilot School uses multiple Design of Experi-ments techniques to effectively and efficiently collect and analyze flight test data. The overall purpose is to ensure statistically relevant results can be extracted from the collected test data. Flight test realities are discussed, which impose limitations to ideal implementation of the theoretical experi-ment designs. Multiple preliminary curriculum events are designed for the students to receive the concepts of flight test profile design; thus under-standing the importance of selecting the proper recorded parameters and flight conditions. Example analysis include model validation, lift and drag equation and coefficient determination, control stick breakout forces and hysteresis, and weapon accuracy via circular error probable. These aca-demics culminate in student test plan development, flight test execution, data analysis, and reporting.
