EAF Foamy Slag in Stainless Steel Production Industrial Experiences and Further Development

Prior to 2008 using the terms "foaming slag" and "stainless steel" in the same sentence was met with much skepticism. However, today the discussion of stainless foaming slags can be performed with confidence. It is no longer an occasional, fleeting curiosity; instead it is a real, proven, industrially-viable technique that is being used in the daily operations at both AMIB. SMS Siemag has been working with other steel plants wishing to apply this interesting technology. Most recently tests were performed at BGH Edelstahl in Siegen, Germany, and further trials at BGH, and elsewhere, are being executing and planned. Furthermore, efforts continue to expand the application of this technology.
