The new blast furnace started its operation on October 20, 2009 at Shagang, China. Some advanced inside-furnace monitoring techniques are implemented, such as laser beam grid for falling material trajectory measurement, laser scanning for burden profile measurement, an infrared camera and thermal image meter for gas flow distribution for furnace top online monitoring, 40 infrared cameras at all tuyeres for raceway and PCI combustion monitoring. The application of those new techniques provides assistance for the blast furnace to achieve high productivity, low cost and stable operation.
