Effect of Blending Rangal Coal on High-temperature Behavior of Cokes

An experimental study was conducted to investigate the effect of blending Rangal coal with a premium coking coal of the same rank on the high temperature behavior of cokes. Coal and coke properties were characterized using a variety of techniques including X-ray diffraction and SEM emphasizing modification of carbon structure and mineral matter as a consequence of thermal treatment at a range of conditions up to 1873K. High temperature properties of cokes were related to modification of CO_2 reactivity. The study will assist in optimizing the influence of Rangal coals in the blends to achieve suitable coke quality.
