30 Million In the Hearth of Blast Furnace No 5 at AHMSA Mexico

1. Development of a reliable continuous monitoring system and better hearth maintenance practice, plus the titanium injection practice, has allowed BF operators not only to extend the hearth life of number 5 BF beyond 20 millions THM, but to run the furnace safely to 30.4 millions THM at the end of January 2010. Furthermore, the new goal to reach is 35 millions of THM before next revamping. 2. The improvement of burden distribution practice as a result of mathematical model use, together with the above mentioned slag quality changes , has made possible to operate the furnace with more than 5.5Kg/tHM of alkali on a regular basis, and productivity of 3.07t/M3/day in December 2007. 3. The VAI expert system commissioning started in June 2007 and we have been working at improvements in maintenance practices. 4. All the actions mentioned above will support AHMSA's hot metal production plans.
