Analysis of the Defense Logistics Agency's Fuel Cell Powered Naterials Handling Equipment Demonstration

The U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is conducting a multi-year pilot project demonstrating the use of hydrogen fuel cell powered forklifts in its material handling operations in its warehousing and distribution centers. DLA uses over 3,000 forklifts to accomplish its warehousing operations in DOD's 26 Defense Distribution Centers. This pilot project helps encourage the deployment of fuel cells at volumes that can lower costs while promoting market acceptance and producing data to validate technologies in real-world applications. The U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is providing data collection and analysis for this pilot project to help better understand the performance of fuel cell powered forklifts and to characterize the value proposition for fuel cell based material handling equipment.
