FMV, the Swedish Defence Material Administration has since 2003 performed a Fuel Cell Technology Program on a Swedish Armed Force' s contract. The program will now be finalized during 2010The main objective of the program has been to increase the Swedish Armed Forces' knowledge of the fuel cell technology potential in the next generation military electric power applications, such as battery replacement units, battery chargers, tactical generators and auxiliary power units (APUs), in portable, mobile & semi-stationary systems. The question was asked; "Can the fuel cell technology provide a high/efficient electro-chemical energy conversion within a broad field of military applications"? What is also known that there is an increasing need for compact, robust and highly efficient power supplies in the same power range and in similar applications for civil purposes, which means "Dual use".
