I describe ways in which state-of-the-art cosmological simulations are modeling thegrowth and evolution of supermassive black holes (feeding), and the impact of the energy thatthey release on galaxies and their surroundings (feedback). I then discuss how this new pictureof interconnected co-evolution of galaxies and black holes provides plausible explanations forseveral of the mysteries that have long vexed theorists studying galaxy formation within thehierarchical cold dark matter paradigm.
