CsH2PO4 (CDP) is a promising solid acid electrolyte and has recently attracted attention as a material for intermediate temperature fuel cells. It has been shown that decreasing the CDP particle size and increasing its surface area are of paramount importance to reduce electrode overpotential. This reduction is due in part to an increase in the number of electrolyte-catalyst-gas triple-phase boundary points and should reduce the platinum loading in the electrocatalyst. However, there is a lack of a general method to produce sub-micron sized CDP and the resulting effect on proton conductivity is poorly understood.
