The effective conditioning of samples for on-line process or laboratory analysis has proven to be the most critical aspect of process control or lab analytical applications. Sample conditioning parameters such as pressure, flow and temperature must be precisely controlled for optimization of these applications. For many years, the use of traditional compression tube fittings, valves and regulation hardware have been effectively used for process and laboratory applications. Although these traditional systems have been effective, a more compact, temperature efficient, lower volume and more easily maintained system is required to further enhance analytical performance. The features of modular sampling hardware present an alternative approach to traditional methods and may provide significant improvement to specific analytical applications. The utilization of modular hardware for sample conditioning has been progressed substantially since the inception of the modular platform technology (2001 - ISA/ANSI SP76.00.02) and the advantages of using modular systems for specific applications will be presented.
