Exploring non-precious metal catalysts to replace precious metals in electrocatalysis such as oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has become one important research hotspot in fule cells, batteries and hydrogen produciton. However, one of the biggest issues currently restricting the application of non-precious metal catalysts is their instability. Especially when suffering from harsh conditions such as strong acids, alkalis, high overpotential, they are susceptibly corroded and over-oxidized, subsequently leading inactivation. Therefore, how to design non-precious metal catalysts with high activity and stability has become a challenging research topic in the field of electrocatalysis.
