摘要

The efficient conversion of solar energy into ?green“ chemical fuels such as hydrogen is one of the major challenges of modern chemistry. Meanwhile a number of inorganic semiconductors as photocatalytic systems for light-driven water splitting have been reported. Beside these inorganic materials, polymeric carbon nitrides have emerged as a new generation of metal free water splitting photocatalysts. Especially due to the polymeric character of this material, a large variety of synthetic approaches can be applied to improve the photocatalytic activity of this material, including doping or co-polymerization strategies as well as morphology tuning, for example by formation of nanostructured carbon nitrides.
