Generation and storage of pure hydrogen under ambient conditions economically, for proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, in portable devices is an area of constant research. The DOE targets for the entire hydrogen storage system are 90 g H2/kg system and 81 g/L system in 2015 (1). Ammonia borane, which contains 19.6 wt.% (190g/kg) hydrogen, has been explored in the recent past for on board generation of hydrogen (2). It is solid at room temperature, thermally stable and stable in air and water, has a melting point of 104 °C and a dipole moment of 5.2 D (1). It is isoelectronic with ethane but has properties similar to methanol due to dihydrogen bonds between the between the protonic (NH) and hydridic (BH).
