In order to study the effects of the dosage of dispersant and papermaking methods on the formation and mechanical strength of aramid paper, fiber mass distribution of aramid paper using different amount of dispersant and different papermaking ways were analysed by image processing technology, and its effect on the mechanical strength of aramid paper was also investigated. The results showed that adding polyethylene oxide (PEO) into the pulp suspension could obviously improve the formation of aramid paper, and the best formation of aramid paper could be obtained when the dosage of PEO was 0.15%, which corresponding to the maximum mechanical strength of aramid paper, further increase of the amount of PEO resulted in a decrease of the formation and mechanical strength of aramid paper. When the same pulp was used to manufacture aramid paper with the same grammage, the formation and mechanical strength of aramid paper manufactured by laminating was superior to the aramid paper manufactured by single ply forming, and the formation and mechanical strength of the wire side-top side laminated paper were better than that of the wire side-wire side laminated paper.
