In today's established grids with high renewable penetration, "flexibility" is the key word dominating the language between the equipment manufacturers and the users. Flexibility stems from a clear need to maintain grid stability and quality through various means against the variability nowadays enhanced with renewable generation methods. Aeroderivative Gas Turbines (ADGT) usually have highest simple cycle efficiencies compared to other gas turbine technologies but GE's LMS100 equipped with its off-engine intercooler takes efficiency to a level that is clearly distinguished among all other gas turbines including ADGT's. Since it first commercial operation in 2006, GE's LMS100 intercooled gas turbine has surpassed 100,000 hours of fleet operation under very different operational conditions. In this paper, operational experience of the LMS100 is discussed and various operational profiles are addressed. The capabilities of LMS100 are assessed for grid stabilization. In addition energy-efficient cogeneration applications are also cited. Latest developments of the newer addition to the LMS100 family, the Dry-Low-Emissions version achieving 50 mg/Nm3 NO_x without water injection, are given.
