Dahanu Thermal Power Station (DTPS) is one of the best power generation plant in India, which commenced its commercial operations in January 1996. Recognized with innumerable awards, this power plant is known for its distinctive features that set it apart from others in terms of technological innovation, international performance and sustainability for a longer period. Plant has strategically adopted Condition Monitoring as one of the key maintenance management practices. Equipments are prioritized for close monitoring on the basis of criticality index to ensure high plant availability by ascertaining health of equipments through various Condition Monitoring techniques. These critical equipments are monitored more attentively to further improve overall performance. This paper shares a success story out of the Implementation of Condition Monitoring techniques at DTPS, wherein the Foundation damage detection of PA fan, Stacker Reclaimer, Bearing damage detection of Coal Mill Motor & Diesel Locomotive Alternator was detected. Also other major benefit includes prevention of downtime of critical equipments, avoidance of major motor repair or replacement costs. The importance of measurement is to ensure reliable data, operational conditions & correct interpretation of data helped in diagnosing the exact root cause of abnormity well in advance The all case studies has clearly demonstrated that Condition-based testing is a vital technique in rotating machinery analysis & detection of abnormality at early stage. This has saved the plant from huge losses in terms of generation, unplanned breakdown and associated maintenance & spares costs which could have caused total cost of {EUR}13,158 & inspired us to introduce new initiatives which was learning's from these case studies to avoid recurrence of same defect.
