Convergence processes in European metropolitan macroregions: specific case of capital cities in Central and Eastern Europe EU member states

This paper discusses the scale and dynamics of the internal disparities within European metropolitan macroregions. Its aim was to conduct a verification of the hypothesis that metropolisation processes tend to increase disparities in the development level between metropolitan areas and their regional hinterlands. This should apply also to Central and Eastern European Countries EU member states that have begun fast process of political transformation and economic restructuring since beginning of 90s. As a result polarisation of their economic space took place primarily manifested by decent development of their capital cities.
