A combined method of dynamic monitoring from runoff plots with ephemeral gully catchment and simulated rainfall experiment was used to quantify erosion process and mechanisms of hillslope - gullyslope system. Soil erosion characteristics of hilllsope - gullyslope system with and without hillslope runoff were compared and analyzed; effects of runoff and sediment from hillslope on hillslope - gullyslope system were quantitatively analyzed too; soil erosion process and its mechanism of hillslope -gullyslope system were presented. The results showed that the sediment yield of gullyslope system increased 25.6% ~ 98. 1% by runoff and sediment from hillslope feeding. Runoff and sediment from hillslope had positive correlation with the net sediment of gullyslope. But had negative correlation with the sediment concentration of hillslope. The critical unit stream power is 0.004,3 m/s from the experiment.
