OPTICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF Eu~(3+) AND Tb~(3+) IONS DOPED ZINC LITHIUM BOROTELLURITE GLASSES

This paper reports on the development and spectral results of Eu~(3+) and Tb~(3+) ions doped zinc lithium boro tellurite glasses in the following composition: 20TeO_2 - (60-x) B_2O_3 - 10 ZnO-10Li_2O_(-x) Eu_2O_3 20TeO_2 - (60-x) B_2O_3-10 ZnO-10Li_2O_(-x) Tb_4O_7 (where x= 0.125, 0.25, 0.375, 0.5, 0.625 mol%) The measured emission spectrum of Eu3+ glass have revealed five transitions (~5(D_0)→~7(F_0), ~7(F_1), ~7(F_2), ~7(F_3) & ~7(F_4)) at 578 nm, 592 nm, 612 nm, 643 nm, 701 nm respectively with λ_(exci)=392 nm (~7(F_0)→~5(L_6)). In the case of Tb~(3+) glasses four emission transitions such as (~5(D_4)→ ~7(F_6), ~7(F_5),~7(F_4) & ~7(F_3)) that are located at 488 nm, 543 nm, 583 nm and 614 nm respectively have been measured with λ_(exci)=376 nm. For all these emission bands decay curves have been plotted to evaluate their life times.
