Effects of superficial gas velocity on the local phase holdup in three-phase circulating fluidized beds were studied. In the experiments, under a wide range of operation conditions, the water was used as liquid phase. The air and the glass beads (dp=0.25 mm, ps>=2.6 g/cm3) were used as gas phase and solid phase respectively. Result showed that the local gas holdup and the local solid holdup increase as the superficial gas velocity increases and the liquid phase showed the reverse trend. In the radial direction, from the central region to the wall region, the local gas holdup decreased. The local solid holdup and the liquid phase showed the reverse trend. In the axial direction, the local gas holdup increased from the bottom region to the top region. The local solid holdup and the liquid phase showed the reverse trend.
