Employee expectations: Perception of Generation-Y engineers in the UAE

Through motivation and fulfilling employees' expectations, organizations are able to satisfy their employees and reduce their costly turnovers. Furthermore, employee's satisfaction seems to vary depending on age. Unlike the other generations, Generation Y represents a segment of employees which is considered to be in need of high maintenance with unique and challenging expectations. Identifying expectations of Generation-Y engineers is of critical importance to employers in order for them to satisfy and retain this generation of employees. In this paper, 12 expectations for Generation Y engineers are identified. Engineers in the UAE who belong to this generation were surveyed and their perception to the relative importance of each of the 12 expectations is reported.
