The urbanization is the symbol of a nation development degree and civilization. There account for most of our land and live most of the minority population in China's western region, due to the influence of natural conditions, environment, economic conditions and national issues and other reasons, the western areas, urbanization started late, walk slowly, develop low. There are a lot of problems, the irrational spatial arrangement, the inadequate urban functions, the Weak economic base of cities, the fragile environment, the diversification national identity etc. Backward urbanization has affected the living standards of local people and China's regional social harmony and stability, balanced development and overall national security. To carry out sustainable urban development in western minority areas, we must adhere to people-oriented, according to local conditions, respect for national identity, scientific planning, choose a coordinated sustainable development of population nature, society and environment.
