With the advancements in web technology and virtualization, there is a growing need for standardization and interoperability in the cloud system architecture. In the existing cloud architecture, different Cloud Service Providers (CSP) have their own standards in terms of API, data format, protocols and other parameters, which are not compatible with other CSPs. This creates a closed system, in which there is no flexibility for the customers after they sign a contract with a CSP. Lack of standardization also implies incompatibility of data and applications between CSPs. To address the above mentioned drawbacks, I propose to you the need for a middle tier in the cloud system architecture for infusing the interoperability among cloudsin a more secure, reliable, competent and faster environment. This standardization will result in a win-win situation for both the customer and the service provider. The proposed Cloud Regulatory Body (CRB) will achieve Interoperability by creating an abstract API which in combination with a suitable adapter will result in a desired API to be used by the any required Cloud Service Provider. This in turn will enhance the inter-cloud operations, ensure Business Continuity (BCP) by migrating the data from one service provider to another when in case of a disaster and continuously monitor the transactions between the customer and service provider to ensure compliance to SLA and QoS parameters. The proposed middle tier will also be responsible for encryption of data, patch management for single log on, and log management to ensure security of the data. The proposed architecture thus achieves interoperability through creating the desired API that supports both Interconnection and portability.
