Nitrogen-doped Ti0_2 (N-doped Ti0_2) photocatalyst with nanosize has been synthesized through the hydrolysis of N-substituted titanium isopropoxide precursors. The light absorption onset shifts to the visible region at 550 nm with N-doped Ti0_2. A clear decrease in the band gap and the nitrogen 2p states on the top of the valence band on N-doped TiO2 (compared to Degussa P25) is deduced from the optical absorption spectroscopy results. Photocatalytic decomposition of methylene blue has been carried out in the visible region, which N-doped TiO2 shows higher activity than the Degussa P25.
