@@INTRODUCTION Polyolefins (PO) are the biggest family of commodity polymers which find widespread applications due to the extremely high performance/cost ratios. Recently, modification of POs using nano-particles (clay, silica, carbon nanotube, graphene, etc) has become a highly appreciated way for further boosting POs in many property aspects such as mechanical strength, stiffness, and melt processing readiness.1 Among the versatile choices of nanoparticles, montmorillonite (MMT)-dominated clay has enjoyed a long-standing, particular attention from both academia and industry due to the combination of low cost and excellent abilities to remedy much of POs' property shortcomings such as low stiffness, low thermal distortion resistance, and melt sagging during processing. In addition, clay dispersed in POs at nano scale also helps promote many of other properties including gas permeation-resistance and flame-retardant properties that are very important in such common PO applications as packaging.
