Purpose: We investigated the alteration in post-exercise ankle-brachial pressure index (ABI) and endothelial function in postmenopausal females. Methods: In 15 postmenopausal females (mean age: 69 years), the ABI was measured at rest and immediately post-exercise. Endothelial function was assessed by measuring flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) in the brachial artery using ultrasound imaging. Results: There was a significant inverse correlation between the percentage of reduction in post-exercise ABI over the baseline readings and FMD (r=-0.72, p=0.02). However, there was no significant correlation between resting ABI and FMD (r=0.20, p=0.49). Conclusions: A reduction of post-exercise ABI over baseline readings are associated with decreased FMD.
