Digital Cinema Package (DCP) Distribution System via Cable Television Network in China

This paper presents a system which distributes Digital Cinema Package (DCP) via cable television network in China, As private networks are very expensive, Chinese cinemas mainly use public Internet at present, whose bandwidth is less than 2Mbit/s. With a broad range of coverage and mature techniques, cable television network is cheaper and faster than public Internet, and the transmission speed could be higher by simultaneously applying more channels to transmit. In China, television and film are administered by the same government facility (SARFT), which gives convenience to allocate and control the cable TV network for DCP distribution. In our system, DCP is split into small segments, and then packed to DVB-C TS packets. To ensure the security and integrity of transmitted content in unidirectional broadcast cable television network, we use Random Encryption Method (REM) and retransmission, while the encryption information and the details of lost data are transmitted via the present low speed network in the cinema.
