Successfully demonstrated the feasibility of joining dissimilar metals by FBJ: Metallurgical bonding and relatively low process load. Excellent lap shear joining strength: Steel to Al: 6500N, highest: above 8100N; Steel to Mg: 5400 N; Higher than SPR on DP590/AA5754; Capable of joining ultra high strength steels (UHSS) such as DP980; Capable of joining Mg alloy to steels; Welding cycle time less than 2 second is achievable: Feasibility of combining with adhesive bonding. Bonding through adhesives without property degradation; Potential for corrosion prevention by adhesive sealing; Initial FOM analysis.
