The finite element analysis of 550MPa high strength cold-formed steel lapped continuous hat section battens has been studied in this paper, and based on that parameter analysis has been carried out. The results show that increasing lap length, according to the constructional detail of the test and this analysis, can raise the ultimate load capacity of battens within a certain lap length, while beyond this range the ultimate load capacity of battens decreases with the increment of lap length. Therefore, it is uneconomic to raise the ultimate load capacity of lapped continuous battens only by increasing lap length. When the lap length is long, some self-drilling screws should be added in the webs of overlapping part along the lengthwise direction and the lap length should not be larger than 0.35L. Adding a self-drilling screw in the webs or flange of the sections with self-drilling screws has little influence on the ultimate load capacity and failure mode of specimens.
