摘要

The objective of this study is to develop a near term solution for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) that mitigates the risk associated with not having a pilot's senses inside the aircraft. For the purpose of this work, the proposed solution is a system of ground based sensors, procedures and a safety process that defines how that solution is developed, applied and proven safe for conducting UAS operations in the National Airspace System (NAS). Although this paper specifically represents the work for night operations in the El Mirage, CA area, it has application to other Department of Defense (DoD) UAS needs. The US Army's Aviation Engineering Directorate (AED) has supported the Army UAS Project Management office (PM UAS) in its endeavor to create expanded airspace access for UAS in the NAS.
