Electrospinning fabrication and electrochemical properties of lithium cobalt nanofibers for lithium battery cathode

In the present work, we have successfully fabricated nanostructured LiCoO_2fibers using electrospinningtechnique from a viscous solution of lithium acetate/cobalt acetate/PVP (Polyvinylpyrrolidone), XRD(X-ray diffraction) and SEM (scanning electron microscopy) were performed to investigate the phase andmicrostructures of the electrospinning fibers respectively. Furthermore CV (cyclic voltammetry) andcharge-discharge experiments were applied to characterize the electrochemical properties of LiCoO_2nanofibers. It is noteworthy that the nanostructured cathode offers a higher charge-discharge capacitycompared with conventional powder or film cathodes, thus LiCoO_2nanofiber cathode may become apromising candidate for the construction of microscale lithium ion batteries due to its larger surface tovolume ratio.
