The use of inter-lab comparison- A practical example for Total Trihalomethane between CYDNA laboratories of Johannesburg Water and the Analytical Services of Rand Water.

Johannesburg Water is responsible for the supply and monitoring of the water supplied to the Johannesburg area. Part of this monitoring programme involves the determination of Trihalomethane levels and the comparison thereof against the limits stipulated in SANS 241. This paper demonstrates the usefulness of an inter-lab comparison when no local proficiency testing scheme is available. The inter-lab study between the laboratories of Rand Water and Johannesburg Water has been running for more than two years.
